Matt Hewison

Sports Development Manager

Having gained an honours degree in Leisure Studies from Leeds Metropolitan University, which he completed after doing a HND in Leisure Studies at Yorkshire Coast College; Matt started work on a new Rural Motivation sports project with Scarborough Borough Council. He then became the manager of the Whitby Action Sport project before becoming the Sports Development Officer in 2001.

His main areas of work include:

  • Driving Participation initiatives
  • Sports Events
  • Safeguarding, Inclusion and Equity
  • Facility development and strategic planning
  • Social Change

Matt also organises the Sports Awards event for the Scarborough & District Sports Council.

Outside of work he is an active football coach for Fishburn Park FC, a Run Leader for Whitby Running Club, a keen golfer, cyclist and runner, who has completed 21 Great North Runs and the Yorkshire Marathon, he also follows Manchester United and enjoys watching any grassroots sporting activity.

He is also a tutor for UK Coaching, Sports Leaders UK, the Event Director of the Cinder Track parkrun, Whitby, a England Athletics qualified Run Leader and a FA Licensed L2 Football Coach.
